Camera Repair Equipment

We put value in repairing your camera, so we listed down
our tools of trade so you know how we get the job done.

Equipment we use for camera repair:

There are two types of software: one for the body and another for camera lens repair, not to mention that every lens has its own unique software.

For the lens, there are four things that needs to be adjusted:
  • Lightbox – exposure values of the camera
  • Collimator – set optical systems to infinity; calibrates the optical system of the camera
  • Shutter tester – tests shutter speeds
  • standard light source – to calibrate equipment firmware to the real light parameters

Why do you use these equipment?

Camera owners do not think that their cameras need calibrating until it’s already too late. By calibrating your camera using professional equipment, you ensure that your gear’s firmware and settings correspond to the real values you need.

What are the benefits of using professional equipment? Can’t I calibrate it on my own?

You cannot calibrate your camera to the manufacturer’s specifications without the special equipment. It is not possible to adjust the firmware and hardware of you camera’s body and lens with accuracy and precision without the equipment.

How does the use of professional camera repair equipment affect the process and quality of the camera repair work?

  • 1. Work cannot be complete without setting the camera or the lens’ specifications, hence professional equipment needs to be used.
  • 2. All modern digital cameras require calibration checks and adjustments to ensure proper functionality. If there’s no calibration, it will not function properly.

How does the use of professional camera repair software affect the process and quality of the camera repair work?

  • Software calibration takes more time than parts replacement. At the same, it requires qualification and understanding the CameraFIX technicians have to fully utilise the advantages of software calibration.
  • Expensive equipment demands in depth software calibration. If you own expensive lens and camera and you refuse to calibrate, your gear will underperform. If it’s not calibrated after repair, it will also underperform and will not represent its value.

Camera Repair Software

Camera repair software is just as important as the
hardware we use. We listed our essentials below.

What type of software do you use and what is it used for?

There are two type of software: one for the body and another for camera lens repair, not to mention that every lens has its own unique software.

For the lens, there are four things that needs to be adjusted:
  • 1. Focus
  • 2. Aperture value
  • 3. Electronic zoom
  • 4. Calibration
For the body camera repair, there are six adjustments:
  • 1. White balance
  • 2. Exposure value
  • 3. Shutter speed
  • 4. Image stabilization
  • 5. CCD check and calibration
  • 6. Adjusting audio

Will there be difference if I don’t use calibration software?

Some functions from the software are important so the camera works properly. The CCD and shutter speed are essential settings in the overall function of the camera that needs to be adjusted so the camera is at optimal capacity.

Camera Maintenance and Service

We ensure thorough camera maintenance and service for all customers, regardless of what they bring in through the CameraFIX doors.

And when we say thorough, we mean it. Servicing work includes:

There are two type of software: one forthe body and another for camera lens repair, not to mention that every lens has its own unique software.

For the lens, there are four things that needs to be adjusted:
  • 1. General cleaning – to avoid dirt piling up and getting through weather seals
  • 2. CCD cleaning
  • 3. Check and double check all camera functions
  • 4. Inspect camera resolution
  • 5. External lens cleaning
  • 6. Internal lens cleaning
(will require disassembly and recalibration after assembly)
  • 7. Do firmware upgrade
  • 8. Lens check (focus, aperture, and zoom)
  • 9. Check how camera works according to manufacturer’s specifications and if calibration is required

How often do I need to get my camera serviced?

At least once a year, depending on the environment where you will use your gear.

What’s the difference between film and digital?

Film cameras require more attention towards their mechanical parts. These include the film pulling mechanism, shutter, mirror box, which are all absent in a digital camera. At the same time, Film cameras need light isolation of the film compartment to be able to capture properly.

Why is camera service and maintenance important?

1. To avoid expensive repairs, if not done regularly
2. The longer your camera settings are not within the manufacturers specifications, the worse your photo quality will be.
3. It’s better to perform firmware upgrade with CameraFIX to avoid motherboard damage due to interrupted update process.

How long does camera maintenance take?

One hour.

Why is it important to have camera service and maintenance done by professionals?

  • 1. Our team has over 35 years of camera service and maintenance experience.
  • 2. We service 5-7 cameras per day.
  • 3. We know about materials and solutions on certain equipment.
  • 4. We will never scratch or damage anything: we will treat your gear like our own.
  • 5. If you’re doing service and maintenance at home, you are running the risk of damaging your expensive camera or lens.

Maintaining vintage cameras can be a bit dull, so I brought my Leica M3 to them and in no time I had a freshly cleaned, ready-to-use camera. Would definitely recommend.
